Chris – CVK Electrical

We do only insurance work, and for the past 6 years have worked with Shannon at HBI. Our work covers the whole gamut of electrical work including those resulting from storm activity such as floods, hail, or lightning strikes.

Lightning strikes is an interesting one as one strike could blow every outlet off the walls in a home: it’s very unpredictable.

Insurance work has been great for our business. There is plenty of work, taking us from Wollongong to Coffs Harbour, we get to meet different people and the fact we are helping people is good too. Sometimes we arrive at a property and the homeowner is in tears. It’s really satisfying to know that what we do is making a difference to them.

We find ourselves going into homes where they have been struggling without power for a few days. Safety is really important. We do the testing and reporting on the electrics and get things back up to scratch again. Often with an old house this means bringing the electrics up to current standards. If the extent of electrical damage means the homeowner needs to leave the home while it’s made safe again, we will make sure this happens.

HBI Australia has been good to work with. Since being with them we have seen them and us grow. We now have seven on the team, 3 electricians, 3 apprentices, and our office manager.

We find that HBI Australia is extremely professional in their approach to getting the job done. If the electrics is not up to scratch in a home we go into, we tell them what needs to be done and they are always positive. There is no cutting corners with HBI Australia.

If another trade asked me about working with HBI Australia I would say, go for it.

It’s a different world to general contracting and very weather dependent. You need to be flexible in terms of when you work and where you work. For us, that means being prepared to travel and having someone on standby because if we’re needed, we have to be ready to go.
